Periodontology
The periodontics include the disease of the tooth holding apparatus, the so-called “periodontitis” and its therapy. A periodontal disease is often caused by a bacterial infection and a known cause for tooth loss in adult age. The dentist or dental hygienist can treat the disease as long as the periodontal damage is not too advanced. The therapy of periodontal disease consists primarily in animprovement of the oral flora. In an advanced stage of the periodontal disease small surgical procedures may also be necessary.
