PARODONTOLOGY
Periodontology covers the disease of the periodontium, known as “periodontitis”, and its treatment. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection and is one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults. As long as the periodontal damage is not too extensive, treatment is carried out by the dentist and dental hygienist. The treatment of periodontitis consists primarily of hygienizing the oral flora. In advanced stages of the disease, minor surgical interventions may also be necessary.
