ORTHODONTICS
Orthodontics is a specialist field of dentistry. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of misaligned teeth and jaws. The appliances and devices used for this purpose are commonly referred to as “braces”. Fixed appliances with bands and brackets are fixed and glued to the teeth. As these appliances cannot be removed for cleaning, good oral hygiene is a prerequisite. The age at the start of treatment is often between 11 and 12 years. However, the alignment of teeth can be corrected with orthodontic appliances throughout life, even in adults.
